Jan Taplick is Deputy Director of European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO).

Jan Taplick studied Biology at the University of Leipzig, Germany between 1990 and 1995. From 1995 to 1999, he undertook PhD studies in Biochemistry at the Institute of Molecular Biology, Vienna Biocenter, Austria. In 2000, Jan undertook postdoctoral research at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel under the supervision of Professor Moshe Oren in the field of tumor suppressor genes. He did this until 2002, when he became Fellowship Programme Manager at European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) in Heidelberg, Germany. His responsibilities at EMBO are the co-ordination of both Long-Term and Short-Term Fellowship Schemes, a continued evaluation of the Fellowship Programme, co-ordination of the Fellows Network and organisation of Fellows Meetings at EMBL Heidelberg and in the USA. In recent years, he was also involved in the evaluation of European national research programmes. In 2008, he was appointed Deputy Director of EMBO.
