Play during opening session

“Het Acteursgenootschap” presents The Conscience App, a play about scientific integrity: from news headlines to daily work of academic researchers. A promising academic is undertaking pioneering research at a university. With a disappointing PhD candidate and dito research data, and a professor breathing down his neck, he is in a race against the clock to beat his international competitors and to ensure his position at the university is safe.

The Conscience App is a light-hearted satire and a starting point for debate about dilemmas and experiences with your colleagues written by Tony Maples from Pandemonia Science Theatre. “Het Acteursgenootschap” consists of three actors: Suzanne Spliethoff, Elske Rollema and Loek van den Wijngaard.

Boattour to the conference dinner

(including the conference dinner ticket)

Experiencing Amsterdam from the water is one of the best ways to get to know the city or see it in a new light! That's why we offer all participants who join us for the conference dinner a boat tour from the Vrije Universiteit to the conference dinner location, The Maritime Museum. We selected a fleet of classic salon boats, city tenders and a tjalk for a relaxed and amazing tour through the Amsterdam canals. We will gather at the main entrance of Vrije Universiteit and walk to the boarding platform at the Locatelli kade.

The museum is located at the waterside near Amsterdam Central Station.

This unique location was built during the Dutch Golden Age as a warehouse for the Admiralty of Amsterdam an impressive symbol of how important the sea and sea trade is for the history of Dutch culture. Nowadays it houses a museum and it is a highly popular location for large and small events. The Open Pleyn Courtyard with its spectacular glass roof with over 800 LED lights and the high ceilinged event rooms offer a splendid combination of historic feel and modern facilities.

The National Maritime Museum tells the story of the Dutch and the sea. It’s the story of the people who saw the sea as an opportunity. The Museum possesses one of the largest and richest maritime collections in the world, a true treasure chest of five hundred years of history. It tells not only a story of the past, but also of the present.

The ship moored alongside the museum is an exact copy of the Amsterdam (VOC ship), which got shipwrecked on her maiden voyage in 1749. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the Dutch set sail in ships like these to the Far East. The journey took about eight months. Work began on building an exact replica of the ship in 1985. Around 400 volunteers helped out. The ship has been moored beside the National Maritime Museum since 1991.

During the conference dinner Sir Iain Chalmers will announce the winner of the first Cochrane‐REWARD prize for reducing waste inresearch. Furthermore, the Poster Awards, the Excellence in Doctoral Research Award, and the winner of the bid to organize the 6th Word Conference on Research Integrity will be announced.
